South Carolina ASCD is excited to announce the appointment of Dr. James Ann Sheley as its new Executive Director. The ad hoc selection committee that convened followed a rigorous set of hiring protocols and interviewed three outstanding candidates.
Dr. Sheley, a long-time member of South Carolina ASCD and ASCD, currently serves as Assistant Superintendent for Academics in Richland School District Two where she formerly held roles as Assistant Superintendent for Schools and Chief Planning and Initiatives Officer. She has 45 years of public education experience and has had the opportunity to serve as Director of Elementary Schools in Lexington District One, and Principal of Lugoff Elementary (Kershaw County), North Springs Elementary and founding principal at Lake Carolina Elementary School in Richland District Two.
Dr. Sheley holds a bachelor’s degree from Newberry College, a master's degree and master’s plus 30 from Winthrop University, and an Ed.D. from Nova –Southeastern University. She is a graduate of the Executive Leadership Academy, the Center for Creative Leadership, and the Midlands Educator Leadership Experience,
South Carolina ASCD’s president, Dr. Abbey Duggins had this to say, “James Ann’s commitment to public education in general and the work of SCASCD in particular was apparent in her interview. James Ann is driven to support the work of others, and we are confident that she will work tirelessly to move our organization forward as we continue on our mission to ensure that each child, in each school, in each community is healthy, safe, engaged, supported, and challenged.”
James Ann will transition to this role in the coming months with the support of our outgoing Director, Donna Hooks, who will retire in June.
