community members support the work of your school? Join SC-ASCD at the fall conference to learn about
creative programs and strategies to educate the Whole Child from award winning schools and leaders from
around the state. Recipients of the Whole Child Awards include five innovative schools, each receiving a
$1000.00 grant to further their Whole Child Initiative. Also receiving Whole Child Awards are Miss South
Carolina 2011 Bree Boyce and the Honorable Steve Benjamin, Mayor of Columbia. Dr. Kathy Howard, a
well-known leader in South Carolina public education, will be the key note speaker. Breakout sessions will
highlight the five Whole Child Award winning schools and their innovative programs. In addition,
participants will have an opportunity to learn how to apply for the SC-ASCD Whole Child Award.
FOCUS: Best-selling author, Mike Schmoker, describes in his book, Focus…Elevating the Essentials, a plan to radically improve student learning using three core elements: focused curriculum, prioritized lessons, and authentic literacy. Participants will be provided a copy of his book as a part of registration.
